Theme Days - Week 1
The PHS Marching band is into it's summer schedule! We've done 2 of our 3 Mini-Band Camp rehearsals. With one more scheduled for Wednesday, July 24 and Band Camp on the horizon, the students are in a great position! At our last rehearsal, we determined that most students have the complete first movement memorized and ready to put on the field. Colorguard has been working on establishing a solid ground in basics and is ready to go with the fight song for pre-game. Our goal for next week is to commit the second movement to memory so that when we get to band camp, we can dive right in with the drill.
New members - you are progressing very nicely! You can use your back yard to practice the marching basics we've covered. Don't feel silly - it will just help you when we start learning drill! I am very proud of the work that you all have put in up to this point. But we're just getting started! Remember - you perform how you rehearse. If you show up to rehearsal prepared and ready to tackle the goals at hand, and keep errors caused by a lack of preparation and lack of focus to a minimum, there's no saying how far we can go! Keep up the great work! Based off of the music of Karl Jenkins, the 2013 marching band will compete with Helios, a 4-movement show depicting ancient perceptions of the Titan god of the sun.

This is a very exciting time of the year for the students in Wind Ensemble as we are gearing up for the annual District Festival. The Wind Ensemble will be adjudicated at the Mary Harrison Center on Wednesday, March 20th at 5:30pm. This will be an odd year, as our pre-festival concert has been cancelled due to "inclement weather". We do however still have our festival dress rehearsal (to be held directly after school on Tuesday, March 19), and two weeks until the festival! We will be playing Fillmore's "Americans We" as our warm-up, and will be playing movements I and II of Puszta (by Jan Van der Roost), and Silence Overwhelmed by Brian Balmages. The students have made amazing progress on these pieces, and I'm very excited for our experience at District Festival! We are also in need of 2 more chaperones for the trip! If you are interested in being a chaperone, please contact Mr. Ritenour at [email protected]!
